Bhashya
स होवाच पिता पुत्रं क्रुद्धमुपशमयन्-तथा तेन प्रकारेणनः अस्मान् त्वम्, हे तात वत्स, जानीथा गृहीथाः, यथायदहं किंच विज्ञानजातं वेद सर्वं तत् तुभ्यम् अवोचम् इत्येवजानीथाः ; कोऽन्यो मम प्रियतरोऽस्ति त्वत्तः, यस्मैरक्षिष्ये ; अहमपि एतत् न जानामि, यत् राज्ञा पृष्टम् ;
In plain words
He said — the father, calming his angry son — 'Know this about me, dear child: jānīthāḥ just means understand — understand that whatever I know, every bit of it, I have already given to you. Who could possibly be dearer to me than you, that I would hold something back from you? I myself don't know the answer to what the king asked;'
Close to the Sanskrit
He said, the father pacifying his angry son — 'in that manner, you should know us, me, O dear child, dear one — jānīthāḥ means gṛhīthāḥ, you should grasp — that is: whatever store of knowledge I know, all of that I told you — you should understand it exactly so. Who else is dearer to me than you, for whose sake I would withhold anything? I myself do not know this, that which was asked by the king;'
