Bhashya
तम् एवमुक्तवन्तं परः इतरोऽगामी प्रत्युवाच— अरे निकृष्टोऽयं राजा वराकः, तं कमु एनं सन्तं केन माहात्म्येन युक्तं सन्तमिति कुत्सयति एनमेवं सबहुमानमेतद्वचनमात्थ रैकमिव सयुग्वानम्, सह युग्वना गन्त्र्या वर्तत इति सयुग्वा रैक्कः, तमिव आत्थ एनम् ; अननुरूपमस्मिन्नयुक्तमीदृशं वक्तुं रैक्क इवेत्यभिप्रायः ।इतरश्च आह— यो नु कथं त्वयोच्यते सयुग्वा रैक्कः ।इत्युक्तवन्तं भल्लाक्ष आह— शृणु यथा स रैक्कः ॥
In plain words
To the swan who had spoken the warning, the leader flying ahead replied: 'Ah, this king is a poor, insignificant creature! How can you speak of him with such high respect, as if he possessed some great spiritual majesty, comparing him to Raikva of the cart? Raikva is the one who travels with a simple cart; it is completely inappropriate to compare this king to him.' The other swan then asked: 'Who is this Raikva with the cart you speak of?' Bhallākṣa replied: 'Listen, and I will tell you what makes Raikva so great.'
Close to the Sanskrit
To him who had spoken thus, the other, the one going ahead, replied: 'Ah, this king is lowly, a poor creature! How can you speak of him, being what he is, with such respect, as if he were endowed with some great majesty, saying he is like Raikva with the cart? He who lives with a cart, i.e., a carriage, is Raikva with the cart; you speak of this king as if he were like him. It is inappropriate and unfit to speak of this king in this manner, as if he were like Raikva—this is the meaning.' And the other asked: 'Who indeed is this Raikva with the cart of whom you speak?' To him who had asked this, Bhallākṣa said: 'Listen to how that Raikva is.'
