In plain words
Feeling humbled and recognizing that sacred wisdom must be approached properly, Gautama stayed for a long time as commanded. The king explained why he had revealed this knowledge earlier and why he made him stay, asking the brahmin for forgiveness. The king said to him: 'Even though you are a learned brahmin, how could you address me with such ignorance? Know this: before you, this wisdom had never reached the brahmins, and instruction in all worlds belonged solely to the warrior class through royal lineage. Nevertheless, I will now teach it to you; after you receive it, it will spread among brahmins. Therefore, please forgive my blunt words.' Having said this, the king finally imparted the sacred wisdom to him.

He, feeling humbled, considering the brahmin teaching not to be refused and that knowledge must be spoken according to rule, made Gautama stay for a long time. Having explained why the king previously proclaimed the knowledge and why he commanded him to stay long, he seeks forgiveness from the brahmin with explanatory words. The king spoke to him: 'Even though you are a knowledgeable brahmin, how is it that you spoke to me thus out of ignorance? Understand this: just as this knowledge has not previously gone from you to brahmins, and brahmins have not been instructed by this wisdom, so it is well known in the world that previously in all worlds the rule belonged to the kshatriya alone. This knowledge has come down through the kshatriya lineage. Nevertheless, I will impart it to you; after you receive it, it will spread to brahmins. Therefore, please forgive what I have said.' Having spoken thus, the king imparted the knowledge to him.
