In plain words
Cloud covers a man's eyes; he looks up at the clouded sun and decides the sun has gone dim — that is how far gone he is. In exactly that way, to a clouded eye I appear bound. That one is what I am: the Self, awareness that never once goes out.
Close to the Sanskrit
Just as one whose sight is covered by cloud thinks the cloud-covered sun to be without radiance — and he is utterly deluded — so that one who appears as though bound to the deluded vision, that I am, the Self whose very nature is eternal awareness.
