The works of Ādi Śaṅkarācārya

Nirvāṇaṣaṭkam

Verse 4

In plain words

Not merit, not sin. Not pleasure, not pain. Not mantra, not pilgrimage, not scripture, not sacrifice. I am not the eating, not the food, not the one who eats. I am awareness itself, and it is whole: I am Śiva, I am Śiva.

Close to the Sanskrit

Not merit, not demerit; not pleasure, not pain; not sacred formula, not place of pilgrimage, not the Vedas, not sacrifices. I am not the eating, nor indeed the food, nor the eater. Of the nature of consciousness and bliss, I am Śiva, I am Śiva.
