In plain words
A tiger is shut in a house with high walls and no door. He throws himself at escape again and again until there is nothing left in him, and then he just stays there, collapsing, gasping for breath. The mind is like this.
Close to the Sanskrit
Just as a tiger, shut inside a house whose walls are high and doorless, wearied by many efforts at getting out, remains there falling and panting — so too it is with the mind.
