। ॥ ८५ ॥

In plain words

The mind is a deer that has forgotten it ever had a home in the Self. It wanders for ages through the thick forest of worldly life, scorched by the long wildfire of its three kinds of suffering, darting after worthless things with eyes wide in fright — already roped and dragged by its own hope — and then, for nothing at all, killed by the tigers of the senses.

Close to the Sanskrit

The mind-deer, having forgotten its dwelling in the Self, wandering long in the dense forest of worldly existence, distressed by the line of flames of the long wildfire of threefold affliction, leaping among trifles, its eyes wide and blazing — though already forcibly bound by the noose of hope — is needlessly killed by the tigers of sense-objects.
