तस्मिन् पुण्यापुण्यात्मके कर्मणि स्थितोऽपि कुर्वन्नपि उभयं पुण्यापुण्यलक्षणं कर्म नित्यं नियमेन विद्वान् ज्ञानेन प्रतिहन्ति विनाशयति ।कथमेतदवगम्यते ज्ञानेन विद्वान्प्रतिहन्तीति ? तत्राह—सिद्धं प्रसिद्धं ह्येतच्छ्रुतिस्मृतीतिहासपुराणेषु ।तथा च श्रुतिः—‘भिद्यते हृदयग्रन्थिः’ इत्यादिः ; ‘यथा पुष्करपलाश आपो न श्लिष्यन्ते एवमेवंविदि पापं कर्म न श्लिष्यते’ इति ; ‘तद्यथेषीकातूलमग्नौ प्रोतं प्रदूयेतेवं हास्य सर्वे पाप्मानः प्रदूयन्ते’ इति ‘तथा विद्वान्पुण्यपापे विधूय निरञ्जनः परमं साम्यमुपैति’ इति ।‘अश्व इव रोमाणि विधूय पापम्’ इति ।‘यथैधांसि समिद्धोऽग्निर्भस्मसात्कुरुतेऽर्जुन’ इति ।अथान्यथा ज्ञानविहीनश्चेत् पुण्यमुपैति देही तथागतं पापमुपैति तत्फलं चोपभुङ्क्ते ।कथमेतदवगम्यत इति चेत्, तत्राह—सिद्धं प्रसिद्धं ह्येतदपि श्रुतिस्मृतीतिहासपुराणादिषु ।तथा च श्रुतिः—‘इष्टापूर्तं मन्यमाना वरिष्ठं नान्यच्छ्रेयो वेदयन्ते प्रमूढाः ।नाकस्य पृष्ठे सुकृतेन भूत्वेमं लोकं पुनरेवाविशन्ति’ इति ।‘अनन्दा नाम ते लोका अन्धेन तमसावृताः ।तांस्ते प्रेत्याभिगच्छन्ति ये के चात्महनो जनाः’ इति ॥तथैव वासुदेवः—‘त्रैविद्या माम्’ इति, ‘ते तं भुक्त्वा स्वर्गलोकं विशालम्’ इति च ॥

Even while abiding in ordinary life and performing actions rooted in merit and sin, the wise person systematically destroys both through the fire of liberating knowledge. How is this known? Because it is firmly established across the entire corpus of Vedic literature...
