येषां विषयपराणां स्वर्गादिवासे उर्वश्यादिभोगश्रवणात्तत्साधनभूतेषु ज्योतिष्टोमादिषु धर्मेषु विस्पर्धा संघर्षो वर्तते अस्मादहमुत्कृष्टतरं धर्मं कृत्वा अस्मादपि सुखी भूयासमिति ।

These are people whose whole aim is sense pleasure. They have heard what heaven holds — Urvaśī and the other apsarases, delights of that order — so over the rites that buy the ticket, the Jyotiṣṭoma and the rest, rivalry sets in; they jostle. Each one is thinking: let me perform a grander rite than his, and come out happier than he is.

Of those who are intent on sense objects, from hearing of the enjoyments of Urvaśī and the like in residence in heaven and other such worlds, in the dharmas beginning with the Jyotiṣṭoma, which serve as the means to that, there exists rivalry — jostling: 'Having performed a dharma more excellent than this man's, let me become happier even than he is.'
