यदिदं विद्वांसो ब्रह्मविदं मानयन्ति इति तत्तेषां निमेषोन्मेषवत् स्वभाववृत्तिः स्वाभाविकी प्रवृत्तिः इति मन्येत ।तथा, अवमानितो जनैरवज्ञातो विद्वानेवं मन्येत—अधर्मविदुषो मूढाः विवेकहीनाः लोकशास्त्रविवर्जिताः न मान्यं मानार्हं मानयिष्यन्ति मान्यमपि न मानयिष्यन्ति इत्येतदविदुषां स्वभावः इति मन्येत अमानितः अपूजितो विद्वान् ॥
In plain words
Let the sage regard the respect shown to him by the wise as nothing more than an automatic reflex, like the blinking of an eye. And when he is scorned and insulted by ordinary people, let him reflect: 'These are deluded folk, lacking discrimination and scriptural grounding; it is simply the nature of the ignorant not to recognize true worth or to honor those who deserve respect.' Thus remaining unhonored and unpraised, the wise man stays completely at peace.
Close to the Sanskrit
This which the wise honor the knower of Brahman, that he should think as their natural function like blinking of eyes. Similarly, the wise one, disrespected and despised by people, should think thus: 'Deluded ones, devoid of discrimination, devoid of worldly and scriptural lore, knowing not unrighteousness, will not honor one worthy of honor, and will not honor even the honorable one; this is the nature of the ignorant', thus should think the unhonored, unworshiped wise one.
