In plain words
Recognizing the good done for you by the teacher—understanding that the genitive case here carries the force of the instrumental, pointing to the spiritual help received—what follows as your duty? The text declares: let the student ever bow to the guru, adoring the teacher as living divinity. As the scripture affirms: 'He who has supreme devotion to the Lord, has the very same devotion for the guru.' Furthermore, let him desire scriptural study, remaining ever devoted to listening to the truth, wakeful, diligent, and free from heedlessness.
Close to the Sanskrit
Knowing the good done by this one—the genitive case being used in the sense of the third case—recognizing the benefit done by the self through this [teacher]; what then is to be done, it says: let the student always salute the guru, let him worship the teacher like a god. And thus the Vedic passage: 'To whom there is supreme devotion to the god, as to the god, so to the guru' thus. And thus: he should desire self-study, and should always be devoted to hearing and the rest, being unremitting and free from heedlessness.
