अत्र क्रमो न विवक्षितः ।प्रथमं गुरुयोगतः ततः उत्साहयोगेन बुद्धिविशेषमादुर्भावेन ततः कालेन बुद्धिपरिपाकेन ततः शास्त्रेण सहाध्यायिभिरस्त्वविचारेण ।तथा चोक्तम्—‘आचार्यात्पादमादत्ते पादं शिष्यः स्वमेधया ।कालेन पादमादत्ते पादं सब्रह्मचारिभिः’ इति ॥
In plain words
In this matter, no rigid chronological order is intended. First comes guidance from the teacher; then the awakening of keen discernment through personal zeal; then the maturation of the intellect through time; and then study alongside fellow students through open discussion. As the traditional verse states: 'A quarter the student receives from the teacher, a quarter through his own intellect, a quarter he acquires through time, and a quarter through his companions in study.'
Close to the Sanskrit
Here a strict sequence is not intended. First through connection with the guru, then by the manifestation of a special intellect through the application of enthusiasm, then through the ripening of the intellect by time, then through scripture along with fellow students by discussion. And thus it is said: 'A quarter the student takes from the teacher, a quarter by his own intellect, a quarter he takes through time, and a quarter with fellow students' thus.
