आत्मैव स्थानम् आत्मैवाश्रयः जन्म चात्मा अस्मादेवात्मनः सर्वं समुत्पन्नम् ।तथा च श्रुतिः—‘आत्मैवेदं सर्वम्’ इति ।ओतप्रोतोऽहमेव ओतप्रोतरूपेण व्यवस्थितः जगदात्मा युष्माकं जनयिता अजरप्रतिष्ठः अजरे जरामरणवर्जिते स्वे महिम्नि तिष्ठतीत्यजरप्रतिष्ठः ।तथा च श्रुतिः—‘स भगवः कस्मिन् प्रतिष्ठितः स्वे महिम्नीति यदि वा न महिम्नि’ इति ॥
In plain words
The Self alone is our abode, the Self alone is our refuge, and birth itself arises from the Self; everything whatsoever springs from this very Self. As scripture confirms: 'All this is verily the Self.' I alone pervade all things like warp and woof as the Soul of the universe, your creator, resting unshaken in my own ageless and immortal glory—and thus I am established in the undecaying. As scripture asks and answers: 'O Venerable One, where is he established? In his own glory—or perhaps not even in glory.'
Close to the Sanskrit
The Self alone is the abode, the Self alone is the shelter, birth also is the Self; from this very Self everything has sprung. And the Śruti says: 'All this is indeed the Self.' I alone am woven warp and woof, established in the manner of warp and woof, the Soul of the world, your progenitor, possessing undecaying footing, abiding in his own undecaying glory which is free from old age and death, hence he has undecaying footing. And the Śruti says: 'O Venerable One, in what is he established? In his own glory, or indeed not in glory.'
