In plain words

Life presents Śreyas, what is truly good, and Preyas, what merely pleases. Desire's path quickly loses its savor and leaves sorrow at the root, yet the undiscerning chase it. Those who know reality take refuge in Brahman, the absolute good and home of unsurpassable bliss. The six vallīs, or sections, of the Kaṭha Upaniṣad set out this teaching.

Śreyas, the true good, and Preyas, the pleasant, are declared as the two: the desire-driven and the absolute. What is driven by desire is the sole seed of sorrow and loses its flavor in a moment; the undiscerning pursue it. Brahman alone is the absolute good, the abode of unsurpassable bliss, and knowers of truth take refuge in it. This is declared in the six vallīs—the six sections—of the Kaṭha Upaniṣad.
