In plain words
Trees growing around sandalwood take on its fragrance and in turn soothe the sufferings of those who come near. In the same way, disciples awakened by their Ācārya—their teacher—speak from compassionate hearts and cleanse the threefold misery and wrongdoing of those whom destiny brings into their company.
Close to the Sanskrit
Just as other trees surrounding a sandalwood tree, constantly sharing the fragrance it spreads, uproot the intense suffering of embodied beings, so too those who have received awakening from the Ācārya—the teacher—with compassionate hearts wash away, through their own words, the threefold suffering and sin of people whom fate has placed in their presence.
