In plain words
A clever insect builds a shelter of thorns around itself and spends its life moving with that little enclosure. In the same way, the Jīva—the individual being—forms a gross body from accumulated Karma, the force of past action, takes up residence in it, and goes about on earth with it day after day.
Close to the Sanskrit
Just as a resourceful insect somehow builds a thorny hut around itself and spends its life acting together with that very shelter, so too the Jīva—the individual being—fashions a gross body from many accumulated Karmas, abides here, and day after day moves about on earth together with it.
