। ॥ ८३ ॥

In plain words

Karma—action and its result—gives rise to pleasure and pain in this world. One who does not see this behaves as though another person were truly friend or enemy. Yājñavalkya and Ārtabhāga taught and praised this Karma in King Janaka's court, and the crown-jewel of the Yadus declares, ‘No one here can remain without action.’

Close to the Sanskrit

Karma alone is the cause of happiness and its opposite in this world. The ignorant person, not knowing this, falsely deals in the notions ‘friend’ and ‘enemy.’ Yājñavalkya and Ārtabhāga spoke of this very Karma long ago in King Janaka's house and praised it. The crest-jewel of the Yadus likewise says, ‘No one here remains without Karma.’
