Someone who has never known gold looks at a gold bangle and thinks only: bangle. The gold never registers. That is how it is with people in this world who have no viveka — their understanding never reaches the substance, only the shape it happens to be wearing.

For those by whom gold is not apprehended, in a golden ornament there is only the notion 'ornament'; thus, for people in the world who partake of non-discrimination, the understanding is not one that reaches the real essence.
