The works of Ādi Śaṅkarācārya

Svātmaprakāśikā

Verse 56

In plain words

No one who thinks clearly grants that the sun lights up the dark. Yet about me, alas, the deluded thought holds: that I am the witness of darkness and of everything darkness makes.

Close to the Sanskrit

In the sun, on the ground of [its] illumining of darkness, good people do not admit [it]; 'the witness of darkness and of its effects' — such, alas, is the deluded notion concerning me.
