यथा शीतं जलं वह्निसंबन्धादुष्णवद्भवेत् ।बुद्धितादात्म्यसंबन्धात्कर्तृत्वं वस्तुतो न हि ॥ ५४ ॥
In plain words
Cold water set on the fire turns hot — the heat is the fire's, never the water's. In the same way, doership comes from tādātmya, from taking the intellect to be yourself. Look at what is actually there: the doing is not yours at all.
Close to the Sanskrit
Just as cold water, from contact with fire, would become as if hot, so from the relation of identification with the intellect (there is the appearance of) agency — in reality, indeed, it is not.
