In plain words
In the northeast I call Gaṇapa to mind, who cuts clean through the darkness of every obstacle that comes prowling in. In the northwest, Vaṭuka, black with the gloss of lampblack, a live serpent slung across him for a sacred thread. In the southwest, Durgā, who ground the buffalo-demon into the dust. And having honoured them all, in the southeast I worship the guardian lord of this sacred ground, whose one concern is the keeping safe of every devotee, with none left out.

In the northeast I call to mind Gaṇapa, cutter of the darkness of roving obstacles; in the northwest, Vaṭuka too, whose sheen is that of lampblack, furnished with a serpent for his sacred thread; in the southwest, Durgā, crusher of the buffalo-demon — and, worshipping them fully, in the southeast I worship the presiding lord of the sacred ground, wholly given to the protection of every devotee.
