When a snake slides out of its hole, the sun reveals it — not by any effort, only by shining. So too the ātman is the knower, because awareness is simply what it is.

Just as the sun, without effort, is the illuminator at the snake's going out from its hole, so too the Self is the knower, by way of being of the nature of awareness.
