In plain words
A magician climbs onto an elephant he conjured out of nothing and rides off, and rides back — and all the while he is one man who never left. So with you. You pass into dream, into deep sleep, and out again, and you have not moved at all.
Close to the Sanskrit
Just as a magician, being one, having mounted an illusory elephant, might go and, coming back, [return] — in that very same way the Self, going into deep sleep, dream and the rest, is unmoving.
