In plain words
Vṛṣa is righteousness and merit; that very time—represented by sacrificial days like the dvādaśāha—is Vṛṣāha, and he who embodies it is Vṛṣāhī. He is Vṛṣabha because he showers all desired boons upon his devotees. He is Viṣṇu, as sage Vyāsa declared: 'Viṣṇu derives from his all-pervading stride.' He is Vṛṣaparvā because the stages of righteousness serve as rungs on the ladder for one who wishes to reach the supreme abode. He is Vṛṣodaraḥ because he seems to hold and nourish all creatures within his vast cosmic form. He is Vardhanaḥ as the nourisher of all, and Vardhamānaḥ as he who expands in the form of the universe; yet, while thus expanding, he remains utterly transcendent and distinct as Viviktaḥ. And because all Vedic revelations find their final resting place in him as rivers in the sea, he is Śrutisāgaraḥ.
Close to the Sanskrit
Vṛṣa is dharma, punya; that same day, the dvādaśāha sacrifice and the like, is the season, Vṛṣāha; one who possesses this is Vṛṣāhī. In the term vṛṣāha, the suffix taC occurs as a samāsānta rule according to 'rājāhaḥsakhibhyaṭac'. Vṛṣabha, because he showers desires upon devotees. Viṣṇu, because of the statement of Vyāsa 'Viṣṇu is so called because of striding'. Vṛṣaparvā, because righteous forms are spoken of as steps for one desiring to ascend to the supreme abode. Vṛṣodaraḥ, because he as it were rains creatures into his belly. Vardhanaḥ, because he causes growth. Vardhamānaḥ, because he grows in the form of the manifest universe. Viviktaḥ, because even while thus growing he remains distinct. Śrutisāgaraḥ, because the shrutis are deposited here as in an ocean.
