हितोपदेशं श्रुतिस्मृतिलक्षणं कृतवानिति वा लोकवन्धुः ।लोकैनथ्यते याच्यते लोकानुपतपति आशास्ते लोकानामीष्टे इति वा लोकनाथः ।मधुकुले जातत्वात् माधवः ।भक्तस्नेहवान् भक्तवत्सलः ।

Or: he gave the teaching that actually does us good, the teaching that took shape as śruti and smṛti — and so, Lokabandhu, kin to the world. Or: the worlds call on him, they ask of him; he chastens them, he blesses them, he rules them — and so, Lokanātha, lord of the worlds. Born into Madhu's line — Mādhava. Holding his devotees close in affection — Bhaktavatsala, tender to those who love him.
