The works of Ādi Śaṅkarācārya

Viṣṇusahasranāmastotram

Verse 555

वेदपादो यूपदंष्ट्रः क्रतुहस्तश्चितीमुखः ।अग्निजिह्वो दर्भरोमा ब्रह्मशीर्षो महातपाः ॥

In plain words

The Vedas are his feet, the sacrificial posts his tusks, the rites his hands, the built-up fire-altar his face. Fire is his tongue, darbha grass his bristles, brahman his head — and the tapas in him is immense.

Whose feet are the Vedas, whose tusks are the sacrificial posts, whose hands are the rites, whose face is the layered fire-altar; whose tongue is fire, whose bristles are darbha grass, whose head is brahman, whose austerity is vast.
