Verse 587

ज्ञानमुत्पद्यते पुंसां क्षयात्पापस्य कर्मणः ।यथादर्शतलप्रख्ये पश्यत्यात्मानमात्मनि ॥

In plain words

Knowledge dawns in a person when sinful action has worn away. Then, in a mind grown clear as the face of a mirror, he sees the Self within himself.

Knowledge arises in men from the wearing away of sinful action; as in a surface clear as a mirror's face, one sees the Self in the self.
