Rajas has a projecting power that is pure activity itself - the source from which this age-old current of worldly engagement has always flowed. From it spring craving and its kin, endlessly, along with sorrow and every other disturbance the mind is heir to.

The projecting power of rajas is of the nature of activity, from which the ancient [worldly] activity has spread forth. From this [power], attachment and the rest constantly arise, [as well as] sorrow and the other modifications of the mind.
