In plain words

Sattva by itself is pure, clear as water. But mixed with rajas and tamas, it leads into the cycle of birth and death. And within sattva, the Self's own reflection appears and lights up this whole inert universe, the way the sun lights up everything it touches.

Close to the Sanskrit

Sattva is pure, like water; nevertheless, having mingled with those two, rajas and tamas, it leads to transmigration. In it the Self’s image is reflected and illumines all that is insentient, like the sun.
