In plain words
Distinct from both the cause and everything caused, pure awareness by his very nature, without a single mark to divide him -- he lights up everything there is, real and unreal alike, and shines through waking, dream, and every state, right here, as this immediate sense of 'I, I' -- the witness standing behind the intellect itself.
Close to the Sanskrit
Distinct from cause and effect, whose nature is pure consciousness, illumining all this existent and non-existent without remainder, free of distinctions -- the Supreme Self shines forth in the states beginning with waking, directly, as this 'I, I', in the form of the witness of the intellect.
