In plain words
Soak a piece of agarwood in water for a time, and a foul smell can mask its heavenly fragrance. But rub it — just rub it — and once that surface stench wears away, the true fragrance shines through again, whole and unmistakable.
Close to the Sanskrit
The divine fragrance of agarwood, [temporarily] driven away by an abundant foul smell due to contact with water and so forth, shines forth fully by mere rubbing alone, once the external smell has been dispelled.
