Verse 7

Tap any word for its meaning.

In plain words

Like the sun or moon in Rahu’s grip, he is there while maya covers him. When the spreading mind draws in, he sleeps; when it spreads out again and he wakes, he knows, as the person, ‘I slept before.’ Homage to that Dakshinamurti, Guru of all that moves and all that is still. Tamil explanatory prose: He who always is, like the sun and moon seized by Rahu, becomes the person, the jiva, through maya’s covering. When the spread-out mind subsides he sleeps; when the mind spreads again and wakes, he knows his own being as ‘I slept before.’ Salutation to that Dakshinamurti, the true Guru of all that moves and is still.

Word for word

He exists, veiled by maya like the sun or moon seized by Rahu. When the outward-spreading mind subsides, He sleeps; when it expands and waking occurs, He knows as the person, ‘I slept before.’ Homage to that Dakshinamurti, the Guru of the moving and unmoving.
