The Guru points to continuity through time. If deeds of former births give rise to this body, the experiencer must have been present in the past; if present deeds bear fruit in heaven or hell, that experiencer must continue into the future. Bodies—human, celestial, subtle and painful—arise and perish in succession, while the underlying Self remains. Thus its nature as Sat, Being, is recognized.
