Paragraph 3

Paragraph 3

In plain words

Knowing of every kind and doing of every kind come from the mind. When the mind subsides, the world is no longer seen. While you see the snake, you cannot know the rope it was imagined on; the rope is known only once the imagined snake has gone. In the same way, your own real nature, the ground on which the world is imagined, cannot be seen until the seeing of the imagined world has ceased.

Word for word

When the mind, which is the cause of all knowing and of all doing, subsides, the seeing of the world ceases. Just as the knowledge of the rope, the substratum, does not arise unless the knowledge of the imagined snake goes, so the seeing of one's own nature (svarūpa), the substratum, does not arise unless the seeing of the world, which is imagined, ceases.
