Paragraph 16
In plain words
The sun rises without any desire, resolve or effort. Yet by its mere presence the sun-stone gives out fire, the lotus opens, water dries up, and people take up their tasks, carry them out and stop; and a needle moves when a magnet is near. In the same way, the three functions, or the five acts, go on simply because of the special presence of the Lord, who holds no resolve. Living beings, caught within them, act and come to rest, each according to his own karma. Nor does He have any resolve; no action at all clings to Him. It is as the doings of the world do not cling to the sun, and as the faults and qualities of the other four elements do not cling to space, which pervades them all.
Word for word
Just as, in the mere presence of the risen sun, which is without desire, resolve or effort, the sun-stone emits fire, the lotus blossoms, water evaporates, and the people of the world engage in their several tasks, carry them out and cease, and just as the needle moves before a magnet, so too living beings, subject to the three functions or the five acts that take place by the mere special presence of the Lord, who is without resolve, act and cease each according to his own karma. Nor is He possessed of resolve; not a single action clings to Him. That is like the actions of the world not clinging to the sun, and the defects and qualities of the other four elements not clinging to all-pervading space.
