In plain words
And this is fitting: Sunk in the dreadful ocean of becoming, the home of the sea-monsters of sorrow, and finding there the wish-granting gem of devotion to Śarva, what have we not won? ‘Sunk’, that is, drowned without remainder, in the ocean of saṃsāra, made of afflictions hard to cross, the abode of the ‘sea-monsters’, makaras and the rest, which are the ‘sorrows’, that is, the torments that come from other beings and the rest; ‘there’, that is, from its very midst, ‘finding’, that is, gaining all at once, by His will alone, the wish-granting gem of devotion ‘to Śarva’, that is, belonging to Śarva, the refuge chosen by the universe: what is there, affliction and the rest, that is not ‘won’, that is, not overcome? And what is there, enjoyment, final release and the rest, that is not ‘won’, that is, not gained? The meaning is: all that is longed for is gained at once. And so in the Āgamas we hear of Nandin, Mahākāla and others gaining what each longed for.
