In plain words

On the battlefield of life's Kurukṣetra war, man stands utterly wretched and bewildered, seeing neither direction nor way, sunk in dejection; to him Mādhava graciously gave the teaching of Sāṅkhya Yoga. The remaining chapters rest, as commentaries, in this second chapter, Sāṅkhya Yoga, itself. Of this there is no doubt. "Arjuna! Leave the Manas and be ready to remain absorbed, you within yourself. He who, like a tortoise, can restrain his senses in every way from sound and the other sense objects, he alone is the sthitaprajña": so, in this second chapter, from the eleventh śloka to the thirtieth, Śrī Kṛṣṇa Paramātma gave Arjuna the Ātma-tattva in full, as one peels a fruit and hands it over. After that, from the thirty-ninth śloka to the fifty-fifth, he gave the ideas of dharma and karma by which one takes refuge in Karma Yoga, whose form is the attitude of equanimity, and attains the Supreme Lord. In this section the greatness of Karma Yoga is told at length.
