In plain words
Life has not come for the sake of enjoyment; it is for the sake of service that it has come: for the sake of service to society. For the sake of service to society, which is the very form of the Virāṭ. What passes from Prakṛti into the Ātma and makes it shine forth: that, precisely, is Sai's teaching. Your own home is the very home of the Ātma. Your true nature is just this: unwavering, pure and selfless. The growth of Prema, the destruction of Ahaṅkāra and the light of Ānanda that come through service. To bring these into your own experience: that is the chief duty of the members of the Seva Dal.
The question came up of what the qualifications of Seva Dal members are. Those who have full faith in Sathya Sai are fit to join the Dal and take part in its programmes. Without Bhakti and śraddhā toward Sathya Sai's teachings, how could you call yourselves members of the Sathya Sai Seva Dal? Make that faith firm, then join the Dal; never neglect its ideals, never act against them, and use all your strength and ability in the work of service without deceit. You have forms and names, but Sathya Sai's teaching has no form or name; so, paying no heed to differences of caste, creed or person, all of you set about living a life worthy of those ideals.
Next, a few rules for the conveners of the Dal: they must also have the strength and ability to go to the villages and speak there about Sai's teachings.
