In plain words
Everyone must study well those divine lamps of the literature of Bhārata, the Rāmāyaṇa, the Bhārata and the Bhāgavata. Students, and older people too, will read all sorts of silly stories readily enough, but they do not set about reading these sacred books. These books give, with examples, such sayings as ‘Paropakāraḥpuṇyāya, pāpāya parapīḍanaṃ; paropakārārtha midaṃ śarīraṃ’. Without a good acquaintance with these three books no one can understand the culture of Bhārata; all the members must come to know that culture, live by it and rejoice in it. So the study of these books is essential for them.
Since the conveners are leaders, their conduct and their words must be utterly pure; they themselves must set the example for others to follow, mustn't they? In some places the conveners, instead of being leaders, are becoming pleaders, clever at argument. Conveners must be people who do a thing and then speak of it, not people who speak and make others do it; today the whole world itself is going that way. It is the same in every field. Such people have no place at all in the Sathya Sai Organisation. ‘I have joined this, but I cannot do the work.’ To say that is one great sin, nothing less! If instead you do service as guides, with enthusiasm, with Bhakti and prapatti, I can surely look after you; Swami's grace will be with you in full.
Now, the age limits for members of the Seva Dal. It is only natural for the doubt to arise why there should be limits of this kind on doing service.
