In plain words

Yearning and Show

But between the Bhakti of those days and the Bhakti of today there is no connection at all. Then it was a yearning that welled up from the heart; today it is a show put on outside. But God is not caught by show. To heartfelt yearning alone He is won, He is caught! Neither by foolishness nor by greed is the Paramātma caught. The Paramātma will never accept laziness either. There is no use in trusting that the whole burden is Yours alone and sitting idle. Since He is with everyone as the Indweller, your own effort too is vital. You must put yourself to work for your own uplift and strive; then the Paramātma too can give fitting help. Though the Paramātma is everywhere, as the very form of Śakti, as the sun in the seat of the heart, He keeps giving radiance to the Buddhi.

Vision and Creation

Embodiments of Prema! In every state the people are in distress and utter turmoil, saying there is no peace and no security. Many people say, “The world is always just like this; this is the nature of the world.” But this is a great mistake. This unrest belongs to the individual alone, so you must not pin it on the world. The world is ever the very form of Śānti; unrest is only a feeling in the individual's mind, and not the nature of the world. To one who has no Śānti, the whole world is nothing but unrest. Śānti springs from within, and does not come from outside: whatever colour of glasses you put on, the whole world appears in that very colour; this is natural. All creation rests on vision itself. Creation comes from vision itself. To the eye of Prema, the whole world is nothing but Prema.

One who has brought universal Prema into experience becomes the very form of the Lord of the universe. There is no need to despair, thinking this is not true. What God teaches, what He commands, what He bestows in Grace, is Prema alone! The Avatāras too come only for the teaching and spreading of Prema; only for a teaching that takes the form of practice! Japa, tapas, yajña, yāga, scholarship: all these swell the Ahaṅkāra and lead to ostentation. But when you strive to attain Prema, many obstacles may come in the way. Hatred and envy may flare up and cause you pain. At home, your own relatives may well show hatred and put obstacles in your way. Friends too may not cooperate. They may even stir up hatred and disgust in you towards God! Look on all these as instruments for testing your mettle, and conquer them with courage.

Blame and Reproach

Blame and reproach of every kind keep coming to good work above all. People of small mind, sick with the disease of envy, may spread petty misunderstandings, making it personal.
