Passage 8

In plain words

Through these very thoughts we must sanctify humanness.

The life principle at the heart of this humanness is this very mind. Man means the mind itself. The mind means a gathering of thoughts. Thought means the very outcome we experience every day. So the whole of life is filled with these thoughts. If these thoughts are not right, however many kinds of sādhana one does, they are useless. For everything, faith in God is essential. Without faith in God, however many books we read, though we understand the meaning of the Upaniṣads, drink in the sense of the Gītā, swallow the Brahma Sūtras and perform japa and dhyāna, these are only like drill done with the body. All these are merely like exercise. Through this physical exercise the delusion of being the body may grow even more. So along with this body we must purify the feelings in us too. This cannot become clean through anything but faith in God.

Lacking the two eyes of faith, men on this earth have become blind; because they do not see Him, is God not there? For such a one He may not be, but is He not there for us?

So we must develop our faith. If there were no God, who is making all these wonders of nature? Though there are lakhs of stars, they stay without falling to the ground. To destroy all the darkness of the worlds, He has set the sun and moon as lamps and keeps them turning. Without any axle, this wheel called the earth keeps turning. Without taking any wage or allowance, a sweet breeze blows for all people. By whom is the boundless sky held from falling to the ground? Who is able to make all the wonders of this creation? Who gives us experiences beyond the human, divine experiences? From behind the curtain, setting people before the curtain, He Himself makes everything play. The unseen itself is feeding the world that is seen. That is divine power, that is the power of God. That is the power of Satya. That is the power of Dharma. That is Dharmorakṣati rakṣitaḥ. To protect that Dharma we must nourish good thoughts.
