In plain words
He tills it. He grows crops. He weeds and he reaps. In all this, many kinds of creatures perish. Since many creatures are lost in the course of growing grain, they told us to perform Ṛṣi-yajña to atone for this sin. So man, without knowing it, destroys so many creatures. In this world there is not a single person to be seen who teaches the principle of Ahiṃsā and practises the principle of Ahiṃsā. No one at all has the right to teach the principle of Ahiṃsā. In this way, without man's knowing it, so many kinds of creatures are harmed. Even in the breath we draw in and let out every day, many insects and tiny creatures perish. Even in the prāṇāyāma and pratyāhāra we practise, many kinds of insects and tiny creatures die. In the dhyāna and tapas we practise, many insects and tiny creatures perish. Then where is there room for what we call Ahiṃsā? Every moment we are bound up with harming. We do nothing but harm. But sin we must not commit knowingly. We must not knowingly harm anyone. We must not knowingly hurt a single creature. There may be many things we do unknowingly. What is done unknowingly is not sin. We may call it a mistake. For these there is even some room to be forgiven. But for sin done knowingly there is no atonement at all. We must undergo it without fail. So, in man's doing of karma, as the fruit of the karmas each has done, we keep going through many kinds of suffering. Whatever seed we plant, that very plant, that very tree, those very fruits come to us. It is only out of our conceit that we fancy we have done so many kinds of deeds. This is nothing but Ajñāna.
‘I will do this, I will do that, I will do so much more’: do not wear yourself out weaving such fancies. Whatever seeds you sowed before you came to be here, those very fruits come to you. When the seed is one, for different fruits to come about, how can that be?
That is why there are the morning sandhyā, the midday sandhyā and the evening sandhyā: so that, worshipping the Trimūrti, we may atone also for the sins we have committed in the three times.
