Passage 4

Tap any word for its meaning.

In plain words

So man is not new; he is old. He is not a modern man. He is the eternal man, the ancient man, who has been coming for many thousands of years.

Karmas alone are the cause of happiness and sorrow

Today people think, in the way of pravṛtti, the worldly way, the physical way, that the year 2000 has begun. This is not the measure of the samaṣṭi, not the principle of the samaṣṭi. Samaṣṭi means God Himself! The vyaṣṭi is the jīva; the samaṣṭi is God. When one inquires well with a divine feeling, one can recognise that this number 2000 is very small. Many crores of years have gone by till now. So to say that this is the year 2000 has no meaning. From the time of Jesus till today, two thousand years have passed. Before this, the years bore the names of the kings of Greece. The months too were given the names of the kings of Greece. In this way people give the months and the years the names of men. But humanness they cannot come to know.

Seconds become minutes; minutes become hours. Hours become days; days become months; months become years. So you need not wait for a new year. Every second is new. Many people worry about what auspicious and inauspicious things will happen in this new year. Years are not the cause of your happiness and sorrow; the karmas you do are the root cause. Whatever seed you sow, that very plant sprouts.

‘I will do this, I will do that, I will do so much more’: do not wear yourself out weaving such fancies. Whatever seeds you sowed to come to be here, those very fruits keep coming to you. When the seed is one, fruits that differ: how can their coming about be possible?
