In plain words
So, it has been said, for this the love of God is needed. We have said: love of God, fear of sin. But where must we think this God is? ‘Ekovasi sarvabhūtāntarātma.’ We must love the God who is in all. So its inner meaning is this: we must love every human being. We must love every living being. Whomever we hate, we become those who have hated God. It is one Paramātma who is in all. Love of God does not mean a love kept apart for God. To look on every living being with love: that is love of God. If we develop that Prema, fear of sin forms naturally. When the feeling of difference forms, ‘I am separate, he is separate’, hatred forms. Then sin too enters. Once we love all, the word sin has no room at all. So, so as not to do this thing called sin, we must try to love all. A person may commit some faults. He may do things that should not be done. But though the body behaves in this way, the indweller of the body is always pure. Do not take only your outer vesture for your base. Keep in view the divinity that is in all! If this love of God is developed, fear of sin follows like a Shadow. Our ways of living, wherever we go, will be sacred ways. Society too honours such people. It is by our conduct alone that we can earn a good name.
Living in society, we must honour the freedom of others along with our own
Man must have two kinds of Character. Individual Character, and National Character. What is National Character? The sacredness of our country. ‘Mine is the sacred land of Bhārata. My sacred Bhārata is filled with karma-yoga. It is filled with the yoga of sacrifice. It is filled with God’: we must go on developing a faith like this. We must take care that no bad name of any kind comes to the country. To match it, we must make our personal purity grow. This Individual Character goes with a kind of freedom.
