In plain words
It is called Individual freedom. National Character has been called the fundamental law. This fundamental law is the same for you, for me, for him, for everyone! Within Individual freedom you may take any name, anything at all. You may perform any rites. But the fundamental law belongs to everyone. Worship your chosen God in your own home! Practise your own principles, your own feelings, your own discipline well! But when you are in society, you must keep in view the welfare and the contentment of society. What did you think Duty means? Going off to some office, doing one's own work: that is not the mark of Duty. As important as our freedom is to us, so important is the other's freedom to him too! So we must not enjoy a freedom that stands in the way of his freedom. That is true freedom. A small example of this. You have a wish to do karate, to take exercise. In your own home you may do karate as you please. But if you start karate on a public road, the police will take you away. As much freedom as you have to do karate, the other man has just as much freedom to keep clear of your karate. You have broken in on the other man's freedom. So the police arrested you. In the spiritual life too, though we follow our own freedom, we must not stand in the way of the freedom of others. Within this Spiritual freedom no one must be free to do so. Because each one must have his own freedom. In this world every human being has a kind of freedom, and of change. In this spiritual matter, each one has his own freedom.
All the members of the Sathya Sai organisations are workers, each carrying out his own duties!
But the rules of our Organisation must be kept by all alike. In the Organisation we have now named everyone an active worker. Why have we named them workers? The reason is this: if one is called an office bearer and another a worker, a little Ahaṅkāra may come to the office bearer.
