In plain words
What is put into practice is true wealth
Today those who study the scriptures manage to gain nothing but scholarship; it brings no experience at all in practice. What is put into practice is our true wealth. However many kinds of learning without practice one studies, they are nothing but show. So we must make the proper effort to put at least one or two things into practice.
One may master all learning and win in the assembly; one may fight in battle as a hero; one may be born a king of kings and rule a kingdom; one may give gifts of gold and of cows; one may count the stars that are in the sky; one may tell the names of every kind of living thing; one may study the eight-limbed sciences; one may reach even the sphere of the moon; but curbing body and senses, ever, holding the mind still and turning it within, he cannot stand, his citta in unmoving samādhi.
So the path that holds fast to this principle of Prema is man's chief goal. The śāstras teach that for man there are five kinds of Bhakti principle. The state of Brahmā, the state of a god, the state of Indra, the state of the Moon, and immortality. The Gopīs held the principle of Prema to be greater than all these five. Everything is contained in man himself. Every single principle arises in man himself. All these are bound by one cord alone, the cord called Prema. Just as a thread runs through gems, this thread of Prema runs through all human beings, equally. So it is the principle of Prema alone that brings together all feelings, all paths, all dharmas, all keys and all goals.
