You may learn every branch of learning and win over the assembly; you may fight in battle as a hero; you may be born a king of kings and rule a kingdom; you may give gifts of gold and land; you may count the stars in the sky; you may tell the names of every kind of living being; you may master all the eight-limbed sciences; you may make the journey to the moon; but binding fast the body, the senses and the rest, holding the mind still and turning it within, becoming selves ever unwavering, men cannot stand firm in discipline.

In the world today every single person is carrying out many kinds of sādhanas for the sake of Śānti. ‘Śānti’ is not something gained through sādhanas. It is not something attained through schooling and study. It is not something you receive through positions of power. But this Śānti can be gained only through the grace of God, and that alone.
