In plain words

They think that if they put on dramas that merely please, in front of Swami, Swami will be satisfied.

He is no man of empty words, brother: this Sāī, the God; He will not go to look at painted dolls, brother. Those who say, “Bring us to the shore,” He holds in a sturdy boat; look at the short Swami, dressed in silk, who goes about among the devotees; open your eyes and see, brother.

Every small student meets these senior students and goes astray. In body they are the seniors. In class they are the seniors. In degrees they are the seniors. And in their residence here too they are ten years, twelve years senior. Look now. Look at that body over there. I call him Bhīma. Does he ever go to prayer? He is a room leader. If people like this turn out as leaders, how many children will be ruined. So how can they foster this discipline? This very discipline is the main subject for us. I cannot understand how you come and speak without any shame. When it comes to talk, they talk very grandly. What is this fellow's experience. Why an experience that does not satisfy Swami?

When someone writes a registered cover and posts it, an acknowledgement must come back to show whether it has reached or not. When it does not come, how can you judge whether it has reached or not. One may think oneself a devotee. But it must come from Me: ‘You are a devotee, My boy.’ The acknowledgement must come. It is not coming at all. How are you a devotee? Only he who brings about the state in which it comes is a true devotee. So My intention is this: what the Registrar, the Vice-Chancellor and all of them must do first is send away from here all those who have been here for eight or nine years. Among them there are some who are all right, a few, poor things. We will keep them and carry on the work. Only those who follow our discipline, our devotion, our duty should be here. Our Institution is not just a rest-house. It is not a village hall. Only people who show forth an ideal life should be here. All this time we have been patient. I hoped so much: ‘They will change, they will change.’ You are no longer in a state to change. So it has to change in this way. Now your place must change. That will satisfy them too. For they too, once they reach this age: we have passed something, some post-graduation is done.
