Passage 6

Tap any word for its meaning.

In plain words

I must reach it. I must experience it': this yearning is not born in every man.

For these five sheaths there are five elements. Space is the first element. The second is air. The third is fire. The fourth is water. The fifth is Prakṛti. The earth. We must recognise which parts arise in man from each one of these five elements. The five elements are there as the shape of man. For example, from space are born attachment, hatred, fear, shame and all such things. Attachment, hatred, fear, shame in man: all these are portions of space. Within our body, what are the things that came from air? Walking, moving, trembling, breathing in and breathing out: all these arose from air. Then, what came from fire? Hunger, sleep, thirst, fear: all these began from fire. Then, what came from water? Phlegm, urine, blood: all these arose from water. Then, what came from Prakṛti? Skin, muscles, nerves, bones, nails, hair: all these arose from Prakṛti. That is why in every man these portions of space, air, fire, water and earth are there in equal measure. Who has the right to argue over such an equal, divine vision, 'This is mine, this is yours, mine is more, yours is more'? Those who think in this way can only be called foolish. They can also be called people who cannot recognise Satya. If they understand the inner meaning well, they will surely be able to recognise this Satya. We must not be bound in the least by the influences of place, time and circumstance. That is a narrow life. We must develop a broad life. We must follow the divine, the noble path.

Differences of religion are nowhere at all. Only differences of mind are there.

All religions together taught only the good; knowing this, one must live with understanding; if minds are good, how can any religion be bad?

Minds are bad. But in religions there is nothing bad at all. The Satya that all religions set forth is one. The goal of all religions is one. The essence of all scriptures is one. Where they all meet is one. Today many kinds of feelings of difference are growing up among religions. This is not right. Every man must take his divine morality and honesty as his support and make the effort needed to nourish it. For every man, morality is the chief light. Without this very light we sink into darkness.
