In plain words
If you have doubts of any kind, ask later. I will clear the doubts well. Today I have only told you in outline. I have told you in brief what Manager means. Later I will tell you how far the Manager must enter, in this way, into each letter. Management is not merely for the sake of a job or for the sake of earning money. First of all we must develop our own principle. Truly, education, education: education is not a thing to be followed merely for the sake of earning money. Earning virtue: we must nourish the virtues in us. Without virtue, however much education there may be, there is no use at all.
Having read all the studies and grown very wise, the dull-witted one does not know himself in his heart.
He does not know who he is; then what studies has he studied? A man came running, running, running to the station, poor fellow. "Sir! Give me a ticket," he said. "Where to?" said the station master. "To our village, to our village," he said. He had forgotten the name of his village, poor fellow. After thinking a while longer he said, "To the village this train goes to." This train goes to who knows how many stations. Today our education too is just like that. We are passing the MA. We are passing the MCom. We are passing the MBA. We are doing the Phd, but one does not know what one's own principle is. So first of all we must recognise the principle that is the root foundation. Then outward and worldly cares will not trouble us in the least.
In worldly and physical ways mankind has reached a very high state. But morally it is sinking lower day by day. A small example. In the old days, when birds settled on the crops in the fields, people would set up certain kinds of devices to kill them: they would fix two cords like this, put a stone in the middle and pull hard, and the stone would fly and strike the bird. They gave it the name sling. It would hit the bird straight, and the bird would fall down. Our moderns kept condemning it a great deal. They were the kind who would say, "He takes a stone and strikes the bird with a sling." Gradually these modern skills kept growing. They started on arrows. After these came guns. These guns went, and the pistol, smaller still, arrived. After some more time, bombs appeared. Atom bombs, hydrogen bombs, things of that kind appeared. At the very last came the nuclear bomb.
